This step is all about improving gas efficiency. If you follow it, not only will your car burn less gas, ultimately reducing carbon emissions, but you will also save money at the pump. The threshold where most cars begin to lose gas efficiency is between 55 and 60 mph, so when you’re on the highway try to avoid the urge to go too fast. Always avoid idling your vehicle.

Maintenance it green.

Completing regular vehicle maintenance like oil changes, tire rotations, and maintaining proper tire inflation levels will also help your vehicle run more efficiently. When you service your vehicle, consider using organic brake pads that don’t pollute, extended-life antifreeze that can last five years longer than normal anti-freeze, and also consider synthetic oil because it doesn’t need to be changed as often as regular oil.

Clean it green.

Chemicals in cleaners usually aren’t the most environmentally friendly. Consider using dryer sheets to combat odors in the car and green organic cleaners that are not harmful to the environment. Lastly, if you’re really committed, avoid the car wash and do it yourself. Automatic car washes use hard chemicals.
