National Car Care Month is Here

National Car Care Month comes around twice a year: April and October. Why two months a year? They are months that coincide with the changing seasons, and the changing seasons tend to bring different weather that can challenge your vehicle if it and you’re not prepared. Below you’ll find a few quick checks to make this fall before winter comes.

Battery

A bad battery can leave you stranded in the cold. To avoid experiencing shivering in the cold while you wait for a tow truck, complete a battery check this fall. Look for corrosion on the terminals and make note of any slow-starting engines or dimming lights.

Tires

A blown tire or hydroplaning in bad weather can be a scary experience. To avoid experiencing these driving blunders, always check your tires regularly. Make note of tread depth, uneven tire wear, any bulges in the tire side wall and tire pressure. Anything that doesn’t look right have them checked and then consider replacing the tire.

Windshield Wipers

Windshield wipers clear your windshield of debris that affect your visibility. They are easy to replace and pretty cheap too. If you notice rips, tears or cracks in the wiper rubber, replace them.

Brakes

Checking the brakes on your car regularly is necessary to keep you and anyone who rides in your car safe. Bad brakes or bad parts that work with the brakes might show signs of slipping or squeaking when braking. If you think something feels wrong, the best thing to do is have them checked.

Coolant levels

Coolant has two purposes. One to keep your engine cool. Two to keep the water in your engine from freezing. Coolant keeps the engine balanced. It helps cool the engine and keeps it from freezing in frigid weather.
